Wealden Pet Hotel For Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Hamsters, Rats, Chinchillas, etc.
|
My aim is to give your pet the best care and attention
whilst you are away. Their health and happiness is
paramount. As a pet owner myself I know how I would
want my pets looked after and I use that as a minimum
benchmark for how I care for your pets.
Rabbits and guinea pigs are housed in my 12' x 8'
purpose-built shed, which contains 5 spacious 4' hutches
(plus 1 for my own two piggies) and two giant rabbit
hutches. Each is a high-quality, fully weather-proof hutch
and in the warmer months some or all of the hutches can
be moved outside into the garden, where they are further
protected by proper water- and wind-proof hutch covers.
Rabbits MUST be vaccinated against Myxomatosis and
VHD - please bring the vaccination certificates with you.
Hamsters, rats, chinchillas and other small animals are
also very welcome, but we would ask that they arrive in
their own cages. These pets will be accommodated in the
house rather than the shed, so consequently space is
rather more limited.
Veterinary services are available in Staplehurst or
Cranbrook. I can administer existing medication, such as
eye drops or antibiotics, if required.
Wealden Pet Hotel is fully insured, both for public and pet
liability.

Here's a run-down of exactly what I provide:-
- High-quality, spacious 4' hutches - plenty of living space for individual pets or bonded pairs. We also
have two giant rabbit hutches which would comfortably house one giant rabbit (obviously) or two or
three smaller (bonded) rabbits.
- All hutches are purpose-built, comfortable, safe and secure. The accommodation is well-ventilated,
light, and kept at a comfortable temperature all year round - gently heated in the winter and cooled in
the summer. When the weather really warms up, the hutches can go outside on the lawn, where there
is plenty of sunshine and shade. Maintaining a comfortable temperature is of the utmost importance.
- Caring, knowledgeable and highly-experienced staff (that's me and my husband!) Only the best fresh
food, fruit, vegetables and hay provided daily according to your pet's personal tastes.
- Pets are bedded on a thick layer of newspaper beneath quality, dust-extracted woodshavings, which
provide plenty of warmth and absorbency and are extremely hygienic. The sleeping area is finished off
with plenty of clean, fresh meadow hay. Good hay is essential - I always provide bagged, dust-extracted
screened hay of the best quality available at the time. Soiled bedding is removed morning and evening,
or more often if necessary (some pets can be mucky little devils!) All hutches are disinfected and all
food bowls and water bottles are sterilised after each stay.
- Exercise is provided daily, either outdoors in safe and secure runs or, if the weather's bad, I provide
personally-supervised one-to-one indoor playtime. I keep a handy collection of tubes, log rolls and
boxes for the animals to play in, on and under. NB: I NEVER ALLOW MY GUESTS TO MIX. For
pets such as rats, hamsters and chinchillas, I provide at least 30 minutes' exercise out of their cages per
day, preferably before 6pm, when I collapse, exhausted, into my chair, but if they won't wake up until
later, c'est la vie!!
- The size of my pet hotel is dictated not by how much money I can make, but by the size of my lawn.
That's why I'm sticking at 7 hutches (plus one for my own two guinea pigs). Small is beautiful, after all! I
ensure that each patch of lawn is carefully swept up after use and then has plenty of time to recover
before being used again. The lawn will be regularly watered and fed twice a year (in sections, when
guest numbers allow), to keep this hardworking but vital component of the hotel in top condition.

Yes, I do have a whippet, but don't worry,
Oscar never gets anywhere near the
guests. He says he's a vegetarian anyway,
but I don't entirely trust him!! And yes, he
enjoys sitting with his head on backwards!!
